Simple Tool to reclaim lost frame sales to Big Box chains

It happens all the time.  You lose frame sells to Wal-Mart, Costco, etc.  Big Box stores steal your revenue. 
 
So, what do you say when you know your patient is going to take the prescription you gave them and then spend their hundreds of dollars elsewhere?  Well, here is one effective script.  Say:
 
“I know that paying a couple of hundred dollars for a pair of glasses is not easy these days.  But what is even worse is spending money on an inferior pair of glasses that is going to waste your time and cause you to make multiple trips to Wal-Mart.  And you know what that optician is going to do?  They’ll offer to replace it no problem, and then they’ll suggest you walk around Wal-Mart in the meantime.  You’ll get another set of junk glasses, and you can pick them up right after you spend $100 in the super store.”
 
While it is impossible to reclaim every lost frame sell, this response (or one similar) is amazingly effective.  Put it in place and see what happens.

Take the oath to make profit

One of the things that either your school or your state board demanded of you was adherence to the Optometric Oath
 
Do you remember the Optometric Oath?  As a reminder, let’s walk through it.  And as we do, it will be a returning path towards profitability and providing quality eye care.
 
With full deliberation I freely and solemnly pledge that: I will practice the art and science of optometry faithfully and conscientiously, and to the fullest scope of my competence.
 
Those are lofty goals.  They are also even more lofty promises.  So, ask yourself these questions:
 
When did you first read that oath? 
When did you take it? 
Do you think about regularly?

    Gordon Duncan is an award-winning educator, salesman, teacher, manager, and writer. He has taught in the public school system, lobbied for school's accreditation, managed eye clinics, led sales' teams, and also publishes books on theology, church, and culture.

    He has been happily married to Amy for over 20 years and is the proud father of 3 wonderful girls. 

    He is a graduate of East Carolina University and Reformed Theological Seminary. 

    He has been in the eye industry since 1999, an elder in the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA) since 2000, planted Sovereign King Church in Garner, NC in 2005, and planted Evident Grace Church in Fredericksburg, VA in 2013.
